we have been on the look out all week but it was only this morning that the oversized hump-backed cows started to appear outside the gates on our street. there are rumours of cow shortages and an increasing preference to celebrate eid al-adha in the villages but given the number of tethered beasts along the roadside there will be no shortage of bloodshed tomorrow morning.
neve has enjoyed counting the cows and he gleefully announces “moo” “biie” (big cow); unaware of his bovine friends’ fate. we don't know how the scenes of sacrifice would register with a 2-year-old and will come up with a suitable indoor activity for tomorrow. anyone for peppa pig?
